Should Drywall Damage Be Repaired Before Painting?

Fresh paint can change the appearance of a room, but it won’t necessarily hide damage underneath it. Holes, dents, cracks, damaged seams, and uneven areas in drywall may remain noticeable after painting, particularly when light hits the wall from different angles.

That’s why surface condition should be evaluated before a new finish is applied. Repairing damaged areas first helps create a smoother surface and allows the finished paint job to look more consistent throughout the room.

Pennello & Rollen Painting handles drywall and plaster patch, repair, and full replacement as part of the prep, so the finished paint job looks right.

If you’re planning to repaint a room that has accumulated years of small wall imperfections, consider addressing those repairs as part of the project. Proper preparation can make just as much difference in the finished appearance as the paint color itself.
